LAST OF 2016

Happy New Years Eve!  With this being my last post of 2016, I decided to switch things up a bit and get a little deeper. 2016 has really been a fantastic year. We traveled to some amazing places, were married, started Lovely in Gold, and found our dream home. I think we've set ourselves up for an equally amazing ( if not better ) 2017. Sure it wasn't all fun and we've had our struggles, like everyone has. Newly married and only together for half the year can be really challenging. There were fights, anger, and tears but we've managed to learn and grow together as a couple and come out stronger than before.

I can't wait to move into our new home in just a few short weeks. This will really allow me to be more creative and take LIG to the next level by sharing more interior projects, DIY's and lifestyle posts. We have so much planned and I'm grateful to have this place to document all the exciting changes in our lives.

I've set some personal resolutions for the new year and to hold myself accountable, I am going to share them with you all.

Enjoy the little things,
for one day you'll look back and realize these were the big things. The older I get, the more truth I find in this quote. Slow down. Breathe. Take it all in. Be thankful.

Be creative.
Blogging means being creative on a daily basis which can be difficult at times. Take more risks, ignore doubts and face fears head on. Find inspiration in new outlets, feed your passion and see each moment as an opportunity to learn.

With everything going on this month ( holidays, packing, working ) I've let the blog take a backseat. I am making a personal resolution to write more posts each week and not fear criticism because I LOVE what I do.

Let you in.
Opening up about personal things can be daunting in any scenario, especially when you're putting your life on the internet. As much as I want LIG to be all chic outfits, beautiful photos and daily inspiration, I know that's not what real life looks like, at least not mine.

Take care of myself first.
Eat clean, exercise at least 4 times a week, drink more water. Give yourself breaks. I'm the person that is always on the go and spreading myself to thin doesn't produce quality work or relationships.

So that's me in a nutshell. Bring on 2017. What kind of resolutions did you guys set for 2017?

For the past few days, I've been eating like crap, feeling tired and drinking too much champagne. Gah, the holidays will do that to you, but the important thing is to not make it a habit and get back on track ( and to the gym ). This morning felt so good to get back in my normal routine and go for a run. Today I am sharing some of my favorite detox tips for getting back on track after the holiday binge.

1. Sweat it out. There is nothing better than getting outdoors or to the gym and having a great workout after overindulging. It's a lot easier to stay in bed but get your ass out there. No one ever regrets a workout, only the ones you skip!

2. Smaller portions. First things first, do not try to balance out overeating with not eating. Skipping meals is unhealthy and can slow down your metabolism. Instead, eat slightly smaller portions. Get your body used to smaller portions in preparation for the new year and slowly reduce your calorie intake to a healthy amount.

 3. Try a detox drink. One of my favorites is the TSC Pink Detox Drink. The mix of cayenne pepper, grapefruit and turmeric powder jump starts your metabolism and increases fat burning.

 4. Eat a healthy breakfast. I love greek yogurt topped with blueberries and strawberries. Eating breakfast first thing in the morning will jump start your metabolism. Greek yogurt is loaded with iodine which aids in thyroid function, protein for immune building, and probiotics that help keep your intestines healthy. Topping your yogurt with antioxidant-rich berries will help lower the cholesterol in your blood.

 5. Stick with leafy greens and colorful veggies. Try a salad full of dark, leafy greens with shredded carrots, sliced avocados, watermelon, cucumbers and chopped tomatoes. I try to add as many colors as possible to add lots of nutrients. Make sure not to ruin your healthy eating with the wrong salad dressing. My go-to dressing is red wine vinegar which is free of cholesterol, fat and sodium and chock full of anti-aging antioxidants. Umm hello, yes to anything anti-aging.
Hope these tips help when getting back into the swing of things! It will feel great to start 2017 on the right foot!  Thanks for stopping by!

You guys probably know by now that my go-to winter casual style usually includes some type of comfy sweater. I am all about cozying up in an over-sized knit when it's freezing outside - but let's be real - the big bulky shape isn't always the most flattering. That’s why I’m giving some style tips on how to look chic ( and not frumpy ) in our favorite winter sweaters.

1. Pair with sleek bottoms instead of baggy. In my opinion, a chunky knit looks good paired with leather leggings, you don’t want to pair them with baggy jeans because it really doesn’t give you any shape and can look very sloppy.

2. Pair with heels instead of wearing flat boots or sneakers. Now don't get me wrong, there are times when flats can look perfect with sweaters, but when in doubt always opt for heels. This will make your legs appear longer, slimmer and take away from the bagginess of the sweater.

3. Make your sweater look a bit more sexy by pairing it with a lacy bralette, statement jewelry or belt. My favorites are long necklaces or statement collar pieces to add some extra flair.

What are some of your favorite tips for wearing winter sweaters? I'd love to hear about them in the comments! As always, thanks for stopping by!

Today I am excited to talk about my most recent collaboration with Rhea Footwear. I am wearing the Classic Signature Flat in Sapphire Blue. This color is the perfect match for a dressy top and blue jeans. Its suede upper features a silky and luxurious appearance, while smooth leather trims give our flat a finer edge. I love the smoking slipper silhouette and it's the perfect shoe to take you from desk to drinks. Also, all Rhea shoes are made using Rhea's GRIP-TECH outsole to keep you safe and stylish at all times - perfect for Pittsburgh's unpredictable winter weather.

Rhea Footwear will be giving away one pair of Classic Signature Sapphire Blue flats to a Lovely in Gold reader. The winner will be chosen at random and announced on Saturday, December 31st. You guys - I have been seriously MIA on social media this week but I promise I am getting back into the blog this weekend. To get you up to date, we ended up falling in love with a house that we couldn't pass up, so yeah, we are moving. So our next few weeks look something like this -  hosting Christmas, packing, closing on our rental property ( sold, YAY! ), listing our current house, NYE, a quick weekend trip to Niagara Falls, packing more, closing on our new home end of January, moving ... all in about 45 days. So right now I am dreaming up decor ideas, trying not to stress, and pinning the F out of everything.

My home decor color palette is very similar to my closet. I love neutrals, especially cool tones and mixing different textures. What is your home decor style? I'd love to hear about it in the comments! I can't wait to share all the moving and decorating stories to come. Dan and I are so excited to start this new chapter. Until then, I'll leave you guys with some of my favorite home inspo.

So you guys! This weekend has been a whirlwind. We ended up finding a house we are IN LOVE with. We quickly found out from our previous searches, that it's been really hard to check all of Dan's boxes and mine. I've felt like we've been looking for this unicorn house and building might be our only option. But then, when we least expected it - boom there she was. You know that feeling - when you know you, you know. Anyways, we put in an offer and are now PATIENTLY waiting to hear the news. And very unlike my husband, I am really bad at waiting. I've been doing anything and everything to keep my mind on other things but this in limbo waiting stuff if really for the birds.

On to this outfit - on our way home from finding our unicorn house, we decided to stop and take a few pictures. I love a good turtleneck and this sweater is by far my favorite purchase this winter. It also comes in blush and grey. I bought this grey BP. bag when visiting my parents in Florida a few months ago. It's a suede material, has tons of space and has the cutest braiding details. I linked a few similar ones below! My pants are Levis and come in extra long which is always a bonus for me. My Rag & Bone Walker Black Leather Booties have been making an appearance on the blog quite frequently. I love the block heel and that they go a few inches above the ankle.

Anyways - I will keep you all posted on our house news! Hopefully we will have good news to share in a day or two! Hope you lovelies are having a great start to your week!
